Vulnerable Sector Check

Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC)

A Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC) is a background screening required by Baseball Alberta to help keep all participants safe. It confirms that individuals in positions of trust have no history that could make them unsuitable to work with children or youth.

Who Needs to Complete a VSC?

Anyone 18 years or older as of May 1st of the current season and involved in baseball in a position of trust must complete a VSC.

This includes:

  • Coaches

  • Team Managers

  • Umpires

  • Team Trainers or Medical Personnel

  • Chef de Mission

How Often Is It Required?

  • A new VSC must be completed every three (3) seasons.

  • In Year 2 and Year 3 (after completing your initial VSC), you must submit an Application Declaration Form to confirm that nothing from your original background check has changed.

  • If you have a VSC that is less than three years old, has not been previously submitted to RDMBA, and is not dated for the current year, an Application Declaration Form will also be required.
  • If your VSC or declaration form is not submitted before the start of the season, you may be ineligible to participate.
